Katrina response

As more details emerge on what really happened after the hurricane hit, it's clear that reports were overblown and many times completely false. For example, mayor nagin said there were murders and rapes in the superdome. This in fact, is not the case at all. There were no murders inside the stadium. Nagin also said "there are babies dying." In truth, there are no known deaths of any babies. There were rumors of 30-40 bodies stuffed inside a freezer at the superdome...once again, not true. The biggest one here though is....that the federal government was slow to respond. In fact, the federal government responded faster than hurricane andrew, hugo, francine, the list goes on....But do you see the liberal media talking about the fact that these stories have been proven to be untrue? Hmmm, correct answer here is, NO....just like the media, they'll never change...

The Black Family

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone racism or prejudice, but this is just funny. Ya know how theres always at least on black person on a reality show? Well, on the newest season of the amazing race, there's a family with the last name of "Black." So, whenever anyone is talking about that family, they always say "the black family is just ahead of us." I find it quite funny.

Geez, I'm getting sick of this woman, and not because she's bashing the President, she has every right to protest. The thing I find particularly disturbing is that when she was arrested in front of the white house a couple days ago, she had a huge smile on her face. For some reason, it just didn't look like she was there to show how distraught she was over her son's death. Just look at the picture, does that look like a woman who's there protesting the war because she's distraut over her son's death? For some reason I don't get that impression.

Something just seems very inauthentic about her and her intentions. In addition, I think its funny that the organizers were saying there were upwards of 300,000 people in washington, which is not even close to the actual number. Most estimates put it at around 100,000, which dont get me wrong is still a lot of people....but thats quite a difference. The main point here I think is the fact that this protest is in fact smaller than the protest which came at the beginning of the iraq war....hmmm....interesting. And when you consider how much publicity this protest had gotten even before it happened, I think of this "march" as quite a big failure.

So, we see once again blatant media bias on ABC. I'm just so sick of this crap, but obviously things will never change. This type of crap is exactly the reason all these news channels are getting their asses kicked in ratings by Fox News. By the way, did you know that the O'Reilly factor holds 4 of the top 12 spots in the cable ratings for last week? Ha! None of the other news networks even have one spot in the top 20!!!!!!!

To ABC's Surprise, Katrina Victims Praise Bush and Blame Nagin

ABC News producers probably didn't hear what they expected when they sent Dean Reynolds to the Houston Astrodome's parking lot to get reaction to President Bush's speech from black evacuees from New Orleans. Instead of denouncing Bush and blaming him for their plight, they praised Bush and blamed local officials. Reynolds asked Connie London: "Did you harbor any anger toward the President because of the slow federal response?" She rejected the premise: "No, none whatsoever, because I feel like our city and our state government should have been there before the federal government was called in.” She pointed out: “They had RTA buses, Greyhound buses, school buses, that was just sitting there going under water when they could have been evacuating people."

Not one of the six people interviewed on camera had a bad word for Bush -- despite Reynolds' best efforts. Reynolds goaded: "Was there anything that you found hard to believe that he said, that you thought, well, that's nice rhetoric, but, you know, the proof is in the pudding?" Brenda Marshall answered, "No, I didn't," prompting Reynolds to marvel to anchor Ted Koppel: "Very little skepticism here.”

Reynolds pressed another woman: “Did you feel that the President was sincere tonight?" She affirmed: "Yes, he was." Reynolds soon wondered who they held culpable for the levee breaks. Unlike the national media, London did not blame supposed Bush-mandated budget cuts: "They've been allocated federal funds to fix the levee system, and it never got done. I fault the mayor of our city personally. I really do."

Finally everyone can stop blaming Bush!

"I truly believe the White House was not at fault here." This was a quote from mayor Nagin, who obviously acknowledges that this was not at all the President's fault. Wow, was I surprised to hear that, and even more surprised to hear that on nbc.

A true leader

President Bush stepped up to the plate and took responsibility for the things that went wrong with the federal response, like a true leader should: "Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government and to the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility" This is exactly why I like this President. Instead of passing the blame (like democrats always do, seriously), like he sure could have, he took full responsibility for some things that are not even his fault.

If any of you haven't seen the movie Crash, you need to. Of course I rented it for free, but its definitely a movie I would have paid to rent.
Its basically the story of 7 or 8 different people. It follows these people and shows their interactions with others and the decisions they make based on race, ethnicity, and prejudice. It was freakin amazing, and you should go out and rent it today if you havent seen it.

Judge Roberts confirmation

So, the senated committee is sure giving it to judge roberts. After watching some of this, I've decided i really like roberts. He's got a level head and seems to be a great judge. By the way, senator biden (d-de) is a freakin idiot. Basically, he tried to get judge roberts to tell what he felt about the abortion issue, as there are several cases pending the court about this. Roberts basically said he would not give the way he would rule on a case before it was decided (makes sense right). He said its not fair to those arguing the case or the court itself for him to already give the way he would judge in his confirmation hearing. Haha, this cracks me up, Biden is a freaking whiny idiot. The leader of the committee has told him four different times to let the judge answer his question because he keeps interupting him. Biden whines back, "but i have no time left." (In addition to that, biden, who was given 30 minutes total, spoke for his first 8, asking no questions, then went on to complain that he didn't have enough time). Haha, I wish everyone could be watching this right now, it's quite hilarious. Biden also pulled out a memo from, get this....1982!!!!!!!!!! Yes, 23 years ago! Basically he (actually the people working for him) went through every single piece of paper Roberts has ever touched, and pulled out tiny little specific words and phrases to criticize him on. Hell, I can't even remember some of the things I wrote last semester.

Have we forgotten about September 11th?

I worked yesterday (at movie gallery for all of those that don't know). When people sign up for a new membership they have to sign a membership agreement, which includes dating it. Almost everyone that signed one didn't know what date it was. You'd think that most people would at least know when it was Sept. 11. (One guy, after asking me the date, even wrote 2004, but thats another story). So, that lead me to question whether people have already forgotten that tragedy that happened just four years ago. Wow, what a different time it was, the country united against a single cause, none of this political bickering, which seems worse today than ever before. There didn't even seem to be much media coverage of the September 11th memorials yesterday. Of course, this is mostly because of the Katrina coverage. But regardless, it just seems like people have forgotten, just four years after everyone was saying "we will never forget."

Smoking and cancer

As I was reading USA Today earlier, I found out that at least 30% of all cancer deaths are caused by smoking!!!! In a time when we know how terrible smoking is for you, and that, well, it WILL KILL YOU, why do people continue to do it? I'll tell ya what, if chewing gum was found to cause cancer I sure as hell wouldn't be chewing it anymore, even if it was only a couple percent of the cancer deaths. But no, smoking is OVER 30%. It just doesn't make sense to me. Yes yes, I know it's probably hard to quit, but don't you think your health as well as the health of those around you would be worth spending a few days (or weeks, or months) quitting?

Everything is Bush's fault

Yes, it is indeed true that everything wrong with this world is George W. Bush's fault, at least that's what everyone seems to believe. Katrina was all his idea and of his creation, in order to starve and kill the poor black people of New Orleans, because after all Bush must hate poor black people.
The truth of the matter is this, all jurisdiction over the Katrina relief falls under the responsibility of the state and local government, which MISERABLY FAILED! The governor did NOT ALLOW in national guard troops. The Louisiana department of homeland security did NOT ALLOW in members of the Red Cross who were ready with supplies to go in the day after the hurricane hit. FEMA WAS NOT ALLOWED to go into the city by the state and local governments. The idea apparently was that instead of going in and feeding these poor starving people, they should instead evacuate them. Well, maybe thats a good idea, and the mayor could have, oh I dont know, follow the evacuation plan already in place! Oh, thats right, the hundreds of busses that were supposed to bus these people out of the city before the hurricane were left in a huge lot that was then flooded. These busses were less than a mile from the superdome!

Now, tell me where Bush's fault is in all of this? The federal government HAD NO JURISDICTION to go into New Orleans without the permission from the state and local governments. These governments DID NOT give permission to the federal government. Again, I ask, why is everything always Bush's fault?

This sign was prominently displayed in the window of a business in Philadelphia. You are probably outraged at the thought of such an inflammatory statement. One would think that anti-hate groups from all across the country would be marching on this business... and that the National Guard might have to be called to keep the angry crowds back.

But, perhaps in these stressful times one might be tempted to let the proprietors simply make their statement... We are a society which holds Freedom of Speech as perhaps our greatest liberty, and after all, it is just a sign.

Free TV update

So, yesterday I got another email from "Prize Fulfillment Services" saying that they received my signed affidavit and have approved my win!!!!!!!!!!!! WAHOO! So, in 6 weeks or less I should be getting my tv....awesome! The strange thing is that, first of all, I never win anything like this. Second of all, about 7 or 8 years ago my dad won a television at a tool trade show up in Chicago. That's not even the weird part, are you ready? In the drawing for his tv, they only took 100 entries, so his odds were 1 in 100! By pure coincidence that's what the odds were in my dell television contest. Anywho, I'm excited, and pretty sure that I'll actually get the tv.
